 New Drawing Class for Beginners:
Tuesdays, 1-4 pm, starting on Jan 8, 2019
Watercolor for Intermediate Level:
Tuesdays, 9:30 am - 12:20 pm, starting on Jan 8, 2019
Monday Workshop: Intermediate & Advanced Level:
10 am - 4 pm, starting on Jan 7, 2019
Saturday Open Workshop: All Levels:
9 am - 1 pm, starting on Jan 12, 2019

New Drawing Class:
There has been ongoing inquiries for a botanical drawing class for "Total" beginners. :)
Yes, anyone can learn how to draw!
If you are the one who always wanted to draw/paint, but you didn't think you could. Now, it is the time to try! If you are lucky  :) to live in Chicago Metropolitan Area, contact me to see if starting to learn how to draw is a possibility to you in the new year. The very basics and a lot of tips about how to use drawing tools will be covered, along with essential botany information for botanial artists. So, there is no need to feel intimidated in my class.
Fee: $240 for 5 weeks, $50 per session
Total 4 courses: Drawing Fundamentals 1, 2, 3 & 4. (approximately January - June)
Each course lasts 5 weeks

Watercolor for Intermediate Level:
This is an ongoing class with students who started the beginning drawing class during 2018 and continue with watercolor. All current students have less than 6 months of watercolor experience.
Those who have some experiences with watercolor are welcome to join. This course is fully focused on learning various watercolor techniques that are esssential for detailed and highly controlled botanical watercolors. You don't need to be "botanical artists" to be in my program, because learning essential botanical watercolor techniques could be very useful to improve painting quality in general.
Fee: $240 for 5 weeks, $50 per session
Total 4 courses: Botanical Watercolor for Intermediate Level 1, 2, 3 & 4. (approximately January - June). Each course lasts 5 weeks

Monday Workshop: Intermediate/Advanced Level:
This course is the stronghold of my program. Currently there are talented and dedicated botanical artists who have been studying for a few/several years with me or somewhere else. We use various media such as watercolor, graphite pencil, pen-and-ink, and colored pencil. Some focus on their own projects, and others try new topics.  We do sketchbooks, too.
Who can join? Anyone who have watercolor experiences or already finished certificate program, but want to pursue botanical art.
Fee: $85 per session
Space is limited. Contact me asap, when interested.

Saturday Open Workshop: All Levels
In this Saturday class, students mostly choose their own projects with the media of their choice. I persoanlly assist them individually. This is suitable for those who don't have time to be in weekday classes. Also, I offer this weekend class to give opportunity for those who miss the classes on other days and want to make up.
So, there is no fee wasted in my program.

70. New Botanical Watercolor Courses for Beginners on Saturdays

It will be via Zoom, continuously!  The pandemic changed our every life dramatically. We have discovered every possible way to get connected and continue our daily activities amidst the frightening uncertainty. The adjustment to online platform, Zoom, was one of the changes I made for my classes, but surprisingly, it became the favorites for my students. To compensate the indirect learning situation in the online classes, I put in extra time and efforts for the class preparation to make each class an effective learning experience. The results have been very rewarding. Both my students and I love having the classes via Zoom. So, we decided to continue the Zoom classes even though we can go back to in-person classes in USA. Paintings & Stories: 42. A Special Treat to a Lady!

Large Yellow Lady's Slipper Orchid Cypripedium parviflorum var. pubescens ©Heeyoung Kim Finally Finished! Some years ago, a fairly old lady approached me after she saw my paintings at a show. She 'confessed' that a bunch of Yellow Lady's Slipper Orchids thrive in her back yard. I was invited to see them. My jaw dropped, completely! They were so beautiful! I started to study them right away, but it was a bit too late. Soon, the flowers got brown spots. I was determined to study them very closely during the rest of the season. The lady's German shepherd was getting used to me in the meantime.     I had good amount of drawings, and more than enough studies, not to mention hundreds of photos taken from every possible angles. However I could not start painting. I needed more time. I needed to get to know the lady's slipper better.
